In an era when many airline tickets don't include an advance seat assignment and carrying any luggage beyond a tote bag might incur a fee, flying can feel completely devoid of the charm it once had. But picking a stylish suitcase can make your trip just a bit more glamorous - and you won't have to worry about your luggage being camouflaged in the sea of anonymous black roller bags.

Luggage with personality is always more fun, and my favorite suitcase is my Steamline carry-on. I always pack my tote bag with technology and toiletries, and have a hard-sided suitcase for checking luggage when I need to, but packing a travel capsule wardrobe usually means I can get away with just a carry-on. Below, I've gathered the best and most fashionable luggage around, so you'll be traveling in style wherever your next trip takes you.

1. Fashion Week

You can't get more stylish - or more British - than the handcrafted luggage brand Globe-Trotter. Queen Elizabeth has reportedly been traveling with her set of these suitcases since 1947, so plan on this luggage lasting a lifetime. For a garment bag that's as fashionable as the clothes inside, I love this chic striped version - it's on my wishlist

shop: Globe-Trotter carry-on, $1,640; similar suitcase, $169;  Edie striped garment bag, $124

2. Long Weekend

When your 'weekend' trip is five days long, an overnight bag just isn't enough. This Raden carry-on comes in a rainbow of colors and features bluetooth location tracking, a built-in scale, and an integrated battery with two USB ports. Paravel's Stowaway bag is designed to fold completely flat, so it's perfect for filling with vacation purchases - I also love their 'bon voyage' duffle bag

shop: Raden A22 carry-on, $295; Paravel Stowaway, $425; plain Paravel Stowaway, $325.

3. #OOO

When you're setting an Out of Office auto-reply for a long overdue vacation, minimalist packing is probably out the window. Between this chic CalPak luggage set and Cuyana's overnight bag, you can bring everything you need for swimming, fancy dinners, and outdoor adventures - even if you end up spending the whole time reading in a lounge chair.

shop: CalPak luggage set, $295; Cuyana overnight bag, $215; vegan leather overnight bag, $70.

4. Safari Bound

On my dream trip to Giraffe Manor, I'm carrying this 'Savanna' bag - the real-life version of that Darjeeling Limited luggage. For a classic camel duffle, try this vegan leather one. Either bag pairs perfectly with Bric's Bellagio suitcase or this monogrammed version.

shop: VTC Savanna Bag #4, $999vegan leather duffle, $70; Bric's Bellagio carry-on, $550; Mark & Graham checked bag, $299.

5. Romantic Getaway

Whether you're honeymooning on the Amalfi Coast or headed to a cozy cabin retreat, this luggage set will make you feel like you're living in a vintage movie - but with TSA-approved locks on your wheeled suitcases. I have the 'Starlet' version and it gets far more compliments than I do at the airport.

shop: Steamline Jetsetter carry-on, $900 and vanity case, $450; similar set, $210; Steamline Starlet carry-on, $840

bon voyage!
